James H. Gillespie (fl. America 1830-50) worked in London, Edinburgh and Liverpool before arriving in Canada in 1829. Gillespie first advertised in 1837 in Baltimore. He worked up and down the eastern seaboard, advertising in New York and Philadelphia. His trade card bragged "Likenesses Drawn in One Minute."
