Set in a gilt metal locket frame with eglomise decoration, the reverse containing a lock of hair.

Reuben Moulthrop (1763-1814) was a portrait and miniature painter and wax sculptor. His portraits of his Connecticut neighbors are icons of American folk art, included in the collections of the Yale University Art Gallery, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Collection at Colonial Williamsburg. His miniature of Delia Moulthrop is in the New York Historical Society.
