Set in the original gilded copper locket frame with cast foliate border, the revere with aperture containing four different locks of hair. It is signed on the backing paper “Ames. pt. 13 Beekman St.”

Little is known of rare artist Daniel Ames who was active in New York City and Canarsie, between 1837-1858. Examples of his work are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
