
William and Catherine Throckmorton

William Van Hook (1782-1864), a prominent
New York City attorney with offices at 35 Wall Street, was the son
of Aaron
Van Hook, deputy sheriff of New York, and Abilgail Stevens. In 1835
he married Catherine Throckmorton (1795-1852), daughter of William
Throckmorton and Catherine Reading of Spotswood, New Jersey. A prosperous
couple who married late in life; William was 53, Catherine 40, their
home was No. 5 Fifth Avenue.
Set in a exquisite double-sided gold watch
case. Included are old photographs of the miniatures with notes about
the sitters written by a descendent on the reverse.
