Daniel Dickinson (1795-c.1866) was Anson Dickinson's younger and
equally talented brother. In 1818, after completing his studies in
Hartford with Nathaniel Jocelyn, Daniel Dickinson moved to Philadelphia.
There he quickly established himself as a top miniaturist, exhibiting
at both the Pennsylvania Academy and the Art Fund Society. His sitters
included President Franklin Pierce, Judge Thomas Ewing (Smithsonian
American Art Museum) and fellow artist John Neagle (Metropolitan
Museum of Art).
