The great-great-great grandson of the celebrated Philadelphia portraitist, Thomas Sully is carrying on tradition by reviving the art of portrait miniatures. Sully is a native of Norfolk, Virginia. He first worked as an illustrator for The New Yorker, before relocating to Charleston where he began taking commissions in both portraits and landscapes. After a successful four years in New Orleans, Sully is now based in the mountains of North Carolina. Additional examples of his fascinating work may be seen at www.thomassully.com. Portraits of members of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and his book of completed commissions may be seen at USArtists, October 1-3 at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
