Frederick Buck (1771-c.1840) was one of Ireland's most productive
and resourceful miniaturists. Buck, who lived in Cork, took advantage
of it being a busy port of embarkation. He painted ivories with uniforms,
and filled in the faces and regimental insignias as the officers
came through. His father, a silversmith was busy in the next room
making cases. This is a fine example of Buck's work and his father's
case work.
