The miniature is set in the original ebonized wood frame, the hanger 2 ½ inches (6.4 cm) high. William Egley (1798-1870) was a self-taught artist working in London. Still, he succeeded in attracting an aristocratic clientele, exhibiting at the Royal Academy from 1824-1869. Egley's charming works may be seen at the Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.
