King George III and Queen Charlotte
set in a double-sided pendant, English School, circa 1770.

The portrait of George III is based on the iconic 1760 portrait by Jeremiah Meyer; the first image of the young King used in coinage. The original miniature was set in a pearl bracelet which was sent to Charlotte as an engagement present. Cherished by the Queen, the bracelet is visible in Zoffany's 1771 portrait, West's 1776 and 1777 portraits and Beechey's 1796 portrait. This popular image of the King was engraved in mezzotint by McArdell and many others.

The enamel portraits are set in the original silver gilt pendant frame with paste surrounds.

1 1/4 inches (3 cm) high.
