Ferencz Hegedüs (1881-1944), one of Budapest's most celebrated violinists, was a student of Jeno Hubay. A European celebrity, he toured England several times. Nearly as famous was his 1732 violin made by Giuseppi Guarneri del Gesu, known in the literature as "Mr. Ferencz Hegedüs ex. Lord Dunmore." Hegedüs was almost always pictured with it.

Set in the magnificent original beaten copper frame with the sitter's name in bas relief.

3 ½ inches (8.8 cm) wide x 2 1/4 (3.7 cm) high. Frame: 4 3/4 inches high.

Miss Ethel Mary Karuth (born 1873) miniaturist and illustrator, was an Associate of the Society of Women Artists. She exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Miniature Society, the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. A favorite of celebrities, Miss Karuth's sitters included Sarah Bernhardt.
