Provenance: Sir Edward George Villiers Stanley, 17th Earl of Derby, the covers stamped in gold with the Earl's coronet and motto, each volume bearing his bookplate.

Sir Edward George Villiers Stanley (1865-1948), served as Lord of the Treasury, Boer War Secretary and Secretary of State for War, 1916-1918.
