Andrew Plimer, circa 1790.

2 ½ inches (6.3 cm) high.

Andrew Plimer (1763-1837) was considered by Mrs. Foskett to be one of the ten greatest painters of "The Heyday of British Miniature Painting." Plimer is said to have started his artistic career as a servant to Richard Cosway, who saw his ability and trained him. By 1785, Plimer had his own studio. He painted on vellum, paper and card and executed portrait in oil, as well as miniatures. Plimer exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1786-1830. His work may be seen in most major museum and private collections.
