A young lady,
by Charles Robertson, circa 1770.

Set in the original gold pendant frame with beaded border and brooch attachment, the reverse with bright-work engraving. This is an exceptionally attractive example of the artist's early work.

1 15/16 inches (4.7 cm) high.

Charles Robertson (c.1760-1821), one of the finest Irish miniaturists, started exhibiting his designs in hair at the Dublin Society of Artists at the age of nine. He was then living with his older brother, and instructor, miniaturist Walter Robertson. Charles Robertson served as both Secretary and Vice President of the Hibernian Society of Artists. Additionally, he exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1790-1810. Robertson's elaborate work table and his portrait of his elder brother are in the collection of The National Gallery of Ireland.
