This is possibly the Jane Blackford who married John Perring of Devon in 1807.

Set in a gilt wood frame with the sitter's identification written on the reverse of the portrait.

16 7/8 x 14 1/4 inches.

Peter Edward Stroely (1768-after 1826) was born in Dusseldorf. His early artistic career took him to Paris, Rome, Vienna and St. Petersburg. Stroely was such a success with the aristocracy in Russia that he remained for five years before moving on to London. Stroely was in demand every where he worked, with a clientele that included Queen Louise of Prussia, Marie Antoinette, Grand Duke Nicolas Mikhailowitsch, and Sir Walter Scott. A favorite of the Prince Regent, Stroely served as his Historical Painter from 1810-20. Stroely exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1803-1826.
