John Turmeau (1777-1846) was one of the founders of the Liverpool Academy, serving as both president and treasurer. Turmeau worked in London, exhibiting at the Royal Academy from 1793-1796 before moving to Liverpool, where he worked for the rest of his career. Turmeau's self-portrait is in the Walker Gallery, Liverpool. His engaging works are scarce.
