A young girl by Samuel Cotes, signed & dated 1782.
Set in the original gilt metal pendant frame with Bristol glass reverse.
1 3/4 inches (4.4 cm) high.
Samuel Cotes (1734-1818) exhibited at the Society of Artists 1760-1768 and the Royal Academy 1769-1789. Taught by his elder brother, Frances Cotes, R.A., his elegant miniatures bear strong resemblance to his brother's portraits. Examples of Cotes' work may be seen in the Victoria & Albert Museum.
