James Nixon, A.R.A. (1741-1812) served as miniaturist to the Prince Regent
and the Duchess of York. In addition to miniatures, Nixon painted oil portraits,
watercolors, and historical subjects, exhibiting at the Society of Artists
from 1765-1771 and the Royal Academy 1772-1807. Nixon's aristocratic clientele
included the Duchess of Devonshire and the Duchess of Rutland.
