A gentleman by Alfred Tidey, signed & dated 1842.

This estimable portrait by Tidey is illustrated in Foskett, plate 125E, page 420.

Set in a giltwood frame within the original domed metal mat. The portrait is signed on the reverse, AlfTidey Pinxt/ 1842.

7 9/16 inches high.

Alfred Tidey (1808-1892) whostudied at the Royal Academy Schools, worked in London and the Continent, counting among his sitters Sir John Conroy (NPG, London), Lady Mary Arabella Noel and John Constable's children. His groundbreaking genre miniature "White Mice" is in the collection of theVictoria & Albert Museum.
