Ferdinand I (1793 – 1875) a popular but incompetent ruler, held the titles of was Emperor of Austria, President of the German Confederation, and King of Hungary and Bohemia (as Ferdinand V) from 1835 until his abdication in favor of his nephew, Franz Joseph in 1848.
 
Set in the original stamped gilt metal mount, signed lower left Suchy, the reverse with sitter identification and several collection labels.
 
3 5/8 inches (8.3cm) high.
 
Adalbert Suchy (1783-1849) studied at the Academy of Vienna before exhibiting there from 1820 - 1840.  A favorite of the Court, his patrons included Emperors Frances I and Ferdinand, Archdukes Rodolphe and Franz Carl and the Archduchess Leopoldine Caroline.
