of artist Johann Walch,
signed, circa 1790.
The miniature, set in a burl wood
frame with gilt metal mount, is signed on the portrait on the easel
behind the artist.
2 3/4 inches (7 cm high).
Johann Walch (1757-1816) who worked as a miniaturist, painter, and
engraver in Augsburg, studied at the Academy of Vienna, in Rome and
Geneva. Walch's miniature portrait of Archduke Charles of Austria
is in the Gallery of Dresden, his portrait of the Vicar of Augsburg
is in the Maximilian Museum, Augsburg. Walch's works in miniature
are rare.
