A mother & son, signed Le Grand, circa 1800.

Set in a square wood frame with gilt mount, this miniature is signed lower right, "Cnne (La Citoyenne [Citizen]) Le Grand/ pinxt." This enchanting portrait is very possibly an early work of little-known Parisian miniaturist Athalante Legrand.

3 1/4 inches (8.3 cm) in diameter.

Mlle Athalante Legrand (fl. early 19th century) worked in Paris as a miniaturist and painter on porcelain, exhibiting at the Salon de Paris from 1822-1837.
